Rep. Vickrey receives 2004 "Friend of Open Government" Award July 6, 2004 State Rep. Jene Vickrey, R-Louisburg, has been selected to receive the 2004 Friend of Open Government Award from the Kansas Sunshine Coalition for Open Government. He will be presented the award by coalition representatives during a luncheon July 6 at the Senior Citizens Center in Paola. The coalition of organizations and individuals with an interest in open government selected Rep. Vickrey in recognition of his untiring efforts in strengthening the Kansas Open Records Act and otherwise promoting openness in state and local government. “Jene Vickrey went to bat for open government in a year when there were a number of other issues vying for attention,” said Doug Anstaett, executive director of the Kansas Press Association. “But he pressed on and made sure the Kansas House of Representatives tackled these important issues.” A member of the Legislature since 1993, Rep. Vickrey is chair of the House Committee on Local Government and a member of the Financial Institutions and Transportation Committees. His committee led the way on a number of open government bills this past session. He and his wife, Teresa, reside in Louisburg. The Sunshine Coalition is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to improving public awareness of the importance of open government in Kansas. # # # |
